Maputo, 15 Feb (AIM) – The Mozambican Tax Authority (AT) has recorded an increase of 113.43 per cent in gross tax collection between 2015 and 2023.
According to the president of the AT, Amélia Muendane, speaking on Wednesday in Maputo at the launch of her institution’s “Whistleblowing Platform”, gross collections rose from 158.5 billion meticais to 338 billion (around 2.5 billion dollars to around 5.3 billion dollars, at the current exchange rate).
According to Muendane, this development represents not only the efforts of AT employees, but also the tax reforms implemented during the period under review, to broaden the tax base, improve procedures and simplify all the mechanisms ensuring the efficient collection of revenue.
According to Muendane, during this period, income taxes made the largest contribution.
Regarding the Whistleblowing Platform, Muendane explained that it aims to offer taxpayers and the general public a tool for reporting irregularities that occur within the tax system.
“This initiative is part of the reinforcement of measures for the transparency of officials and so that service users and all interested parties can use the platform to report various irregularities that may occur in the AT’s organizational units, to the detriment of the efficiency of the tax system”, she said.
