Expulsão do cidadão angolano Higino Duarte Regal
Maputo, 26 Feb (AIM) – The Mozambican authorities on Sunday expelled from the country an Angolan citizen accused of drug trafficking.
The Angolan, named as Higino Duarte Regal (but also known as Carlos Eduardo Monteiro) was detained in Maputo on 21 December, in compliance with an international arrest warrant issued by the Angolan authorities.
According to a note from the Mozambican Attorney-General’s Office (PGR), Regal/Monteiro is a fugitive from Angolan justice. He had escaped from an Angolan prison where he had been serving a 10 year sentence for drug trafficking.
He escaped from police custody, while he was receiving medical care in an Angolan hospital.
When he was arrested, he was found with documents in his name from several countries, including Mozambique, Brazil, Seychelles, Namibia and Angola. The documents included birth certificates, passports, identity cards and driving licenses.
“Regal is facing two criminal proceedings before the Central Office for Combating Organized and Transnational Crime (GCCCOT). He is accused of forgery and using false documents”, reads the PGR document.
At the same time as the criminal proceedings, an administrative expulsion process was set in motion because of immigration offences including entering Mozambique illegally.
The Senami release gave no details of the reasons for their expulsion.
