Maputo, 22 May (AIM) – The Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) inaugurated, on Tuesday, a new facility where the maritime post of the National Immigration Service (SENAMI) will function.
The infrastructures, budgeted at over 13.6 million meticais (about 214,000 US dollars at the current exchange rate), include several reception rooms and offices, including a section where cruise passengers will be received.
According to MPDC Executive Director, Osório Lucas, these facilities are aimed at improving the working conditions of SENAMI at Maputo Port, taking into account MPDC’s commitment to the well-being of the entire port community.
“The port is seen as a collective entity, where we all operate together for excellence in customer service. We would like to challenge SENAMI to think with us about the digital integration of some services, as has already been done, for example, with Mozambique Customs, thus creating greater efficiency”, he said.
The old SENAMI maritime post facility, which was already degraded, will now be refurbished to house a museum and port information centre.
The infrastructure handover ceremony was attended by the Director of Immigration Operations, Juma Costa and the Financial Director of the National Immigration Service, Tomás Dembele.
