Maputo, 27 May (AIM) – The Mozambican and Tanzanian police forces will continue to strengthen and consolidate their joint efforts as part of bilateral cooperation, in order to reduce the crime rate in both countries and to step up the fight against extreme violence.
According to the Mozambican Interior Minister, Pascoal Ronda, who was speaking on Saturday, in Dar es Salaam, on the sidelines of the celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, the strengthening of public security in both countries involves the fight against terrorism, taking into account the extreme violence carried out by terrorists in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.
“Terrorism is a global phenomenon with a tendency to expand”, Ronda said.
Ronda believes that the relationship between the two institutions remains healthy, since both countries are collaborating in various fields against any kind of crime.
The minister also said that Mozambique will continue to co-operate with other countries in this area, despite the end of the Southern African Development Community Military Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM), which was helping the country to fight against this terrorism in Cabo Delgado.
“Taking stock of the twenty years of the African Union Peace and Security Council, the body has achieved positive results, despite the fact that there are still unresolved armed conflicts in some countries”, he said.
