Maputo, 30 May (AIM) – The Rwandan troops, who are helping the Mozambican armed forces to fight terrorism, killed on Wednesday morning at least eleven jihadists terrorists at the headquarters of the Mbau administrative post, Mocímboa da Praia district, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.
According to Thursday’s issue of the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, citing local sources, the terrorists were hit when, at around 04.00, they tried to attack the Mbau village of Mmala, starting with the area where the Rwandan soldiers are stationed.
“We started to hear shooting and we were surprised because Rwandans don’t normally shoot. Then we realized it was a confrontation with terrorists. More than ten terrorists were killed”, a source said.
Recently, photos of seven lifeless bodies of terrorists lying on the ground went viral on social media.
Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi, on Thursday, also mentioned the battle between, claiming that the Mozambican Defence and Security Forces, with the help of Rwandan forces, are defeating the terrorists.
“Those dozens put out of action are the ones who have been accounted for, others are on the run”, he added. “These are difficult times, but our determination helps us state that we own this homeland”.
Since October 2017, terrorist attacks have killed over 4,000 people and forced around a million to leave their home areas and seek refuge in safer places, triggering a humanitarian crisis.
