Maputo, 6 Jun (AIM) – Mozambique’s publicly owned Ports and Rail Company (CFM) and the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) signed, on Wednesday, in Maputo, a Service Level Agreement (SLA) in order to enable them to achieve a competitive and profitable rail-port solution for the Maputo Logistics Corridor.
The signing of the SLA is part of the joint work between CFM and MPDC, with the aim of increasing rail freight and improving the current ratio between road and rail traffic.
According to the chairperson of the CFM Board of Directors, Agostinho Langa Juníor, the investment plans of CFM and MPDC must be aligned in order to meet traffic demand.
“The port investment that will be made over the next 25 years must be matched by railway investment. It must be clear that the road will never have the capacity to carry 40 million tonnes. On the land side, and especially on the railway side, there has to be the capacity to increase rail volumes”, he said.
The SLA agreement will standardize the loading and unloading of trains/wagons and transport services, namely transit time, dwell times at stations, in the pit and at the port, among other services that will make it possible to provide effective and efficient logistics for the customer.
For his part, the MPDC Chief Executive Officer, Osório Lucas, said that the signing of this SLA follows on from the systems integration work.
“This platform is already making it possible to detect inefficiencies and act on them immediately. The goal, after all, is customer satisfaction and this can only happen if the corridor is thought of as a whole and becomes increasingly competitive”, he explained.
The MPDC has also obtained ISO 9001:2015 certification, which is a significant milestone for Maputo Port, since it is the first port in Mozambique to receive this certification.
“This achievement is a reflection of the commitment to the continuous improvement of services and the pursuit of excellence in customer service”, he said.
ISO 9001 certification, he explained, is not a goal, but a commitment “to our customers, partners and society in general. The aim is to achieve the next certification because this is just the start of a continuous journey of improvement and innovation.”
