Maputo, 12 Jun (AIM) – The Mozambican government has approved the National Development Strategy (ENDE) 2025-2044, a planning and budgeting instrument aimed at guiding the country’s development over the next 20 years.
According to government spokesperson and deputy minister of Industry and Trade, Ludovina Bernardo, who was speaking minutes after the end of Tuesday’s meeting of the Council of Ministers (the Cabinet), in Maputo, the government will submit the ENDE 2025-2044 to the Assembly of the Republic, the Mozambican parliament.
Bernardo explained that the strategy is based on five pillars, namely, the structural transformation of the economy; social and demographic transformation; infrastructure, organization and territorial planning; governance, peace and security; and environmental sustainability and climate change.
“The government has ENDE as a mechanism that will play a vital role in building a prosperous and equitable future for all Mozambicans, as it guides public policies, promotes coordination and coherence, aligns long-term objectives, attracts investment and addresses sustainability”, she claimed.
According to Bernardo. ENDE is a macro instrument, based on other sectoral strategies that will be drawn up in order to bring concrete actions to be implemented within 20 years.
In mid-September 2021, she said, President Nyusi launched the process of revising ENDE 2015-2035, which presented a holistic approach to development, with an emphasis on the structural transformation of the economy, expansion and diversification of the productive base
However, the spokeswoman said that the document has been transformed several times “since there were consultations at national level, involving all segments of society.”
In addition to framing the country’s economic and structural issues and aligning it with the national planning system, the ENDE, according to Ludovina Bernardo, is also based on “the commitments we have at international level.”
“The document will guarantee that all policies and programmes comply with current legislation”, she claimed.
