Presidente da República, Filipe Nyusi, discursando na Conferência sobre Resposta Humanitária Urgente na Faixa de Gaza
Maputo, 12 Jun (AIM) – Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi, speaking in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on Tuesday, called for an end to Israeli military operations in Rafah, in the Gaza Strip, since they violate all humanitarian and moral norms in times of war.
Addressing a Conference on the Urgent Humanitarian Response in the Gaza Strip, Nyusi stressed the binding nature of the various resolutions adopted by the United Nations Security Council.
In particular, he called for the immediate implementation of the obligations imposed on states by Resolutions 2728 and 2730 of May 2024 (adopted by the Security Council when Mozambique was chairing it), concerning the protection of UN humanitarian staff, buildings and other assets.
He expressed Mozambique’s support for the conclusions of the working groups transmitted to the conference plenary.
The conference concluded that humanitarian assistance, the protection of civilians in Gaza, and recovery priorities in line with the needs of the Palestinian people and free of political conditions are pertinent and urgent.
Cited in a statement from the President’s office, Nyusi condemned the military hostilities in the region, which are killing thousands, including women and children, and are destroying social and economic infrastructures.
“It would be of great moral value to prevent the hindrances put in the way of providing humanitarian assistance to those in need”, said Nyusi.
He warned that the conflict has taken on catastrophic proportions when, despite repeated appeals from the international community, attacks persist against civilians and against humanitarian staff, in violation of International Humanitarian Law, and of the human rights of the Palestinian people.
Nyusi pledged that Mozambique is willing to make its contribution “towards solving this long conflict through dialogue between the parties”.
He transmitted a message of solidarity and friendship from the Mozambican people to the Palestinian people, and particularly to the people of Gaza, “who are the victims of an unprecedented humanitarian tragedy”.
Nyusi believed that recognition of the principle of two states, a Palestinian state and an Israeli state, living side by side in an environment of peace, co-existence and mutual respect, could guarantee the stability desired in the region.
