Maputo, 12 Jul (AIM) – The Italian government intends to disburse 2.5 billion meticais (39.1 million dollars, at the current exchange rate) in order to fund Agri-Food Centres (CAAM), in the central Mozambican province of Manica.
The disbursement is covered by an agreement signed by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Max Tonela, and the Italian ambassador, Gianni Bardini, on Tuesday, as part of the Post-Cyclone Rehabilitation Programme.
The amount, according to a statement published on the webpage of the Economy Ministry, will cover investment projects for the agricultural sector along the Beira Corridor.
“The government had submitted an intervention proposal to Italy for the recovery and modernization of an Agri-Food Centre of excellence in Chimoio, in order to boost the local economy, and the focus will be on production, selection, processing and marketing, thus promoting new technologies and the inclusion of laboratories for testing and certifying food quality”, reads the note.
