Candidato presidencial da Frelimo, Daniel Chapo, trabalha na província do Niassa em pré-campanha eleitoral
Maputo, 28 Jul (AIM) – Daniel Chapo, the presidential candidate of Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo Party, promised on Friday, in the city of Cuamba, in the northern province of Niassa that, if elected, he will work for the empowerment of women.
Speaking to Frelimo members and supporters in Cuamba, Chapo said he wants to see women leading initiatives that generate income, and playing a determinant role in economic growth.
He stressed the need for gender parity and for the public to participate actively in the presidential, parliamentary and provincial elections scheduled for 9 October, which will choose the government for the next five years.
The vision of Frelimo, Chapo declared, is for change, progress and renewal, bearing in mind the current challenges but not neglecting the work done so far to develop the country.
Under his government, he stressed, there would be “specific lines of financing for women, supporting their empowerment and combatting domestic violence. Women have the same rights as men, and must be treated with respect and dignity”.
Chapo also stressed that Niassa is a province rich in natural resources which, if properly managed, could promote local development. Local industries must be created, he added, to assure the value chain of minerals extracted in the province.
“We must work so that companies respect the rights of the Mozambican people”, said Chapo, “and use the natural resources in order to benefit the local population, investing in infrastructures and in education”.
