Maputo, 16 Aug (AIM) – The Mozambican Confederation of Business Associations (CTA) has decided to pay in full its debt of 24.3 million meticais (380,000 US dollars, at the current exchange rate) that the Confederation owes to the engineering firm Mondego Group, following a notification of the Maputo City Court.
The contract that CTA has with Mondego Group was for the construction of an office building in Xai-Xai, capital of the southern Province of Gaza, and another office building in the neighbouring province of Inhambane.
However, according to the CTA statement, the 26.5 million meticais demanded by Mondego does not correspond to the work actually carried out, especially to the office building of Inhambane, which, to date, is not finished.
The CTA took the matter to court, and as a result the amount owing was reduced to 24.3 million meticais.
The CTA argued that this was still far too much and that its real debt to Mondego is about 12 million meticais. So the CTA submitted an appeal to the Supreme Court.
“While the case proceeds in the Supreme Court, the Mondego Group has started an enforcement procedure in 13th Section of the Maputo City Judicial Court, which culminated in the seizure of CTA property”, says the CTA note.
As a result of the seizure, CTA decided to pay the 24.3 million meticais ordered by the court, pending the decision of the Supreme Court, the last instance of appeal.
