Maputo, 9 Sep (AIM) – The residents of Mocímboa da Praia district, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, have recently located at least three lifeless bodies, according to Monday’s issue of the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique.”
It is believed that the three people might have been killed by the Islamist terrorists that have been plaguing some parts of Cabo Delgado.
According to the paper, citing local sources, the victims, who were found on Wednesday and Thursday by the population of Malinde and Cabaceira villages, less than 40 kilometres from the main town, had their hands and legs tied. They were all men.
“It is presumed that the victims were tied up and then thrown into the sea where they drowned. There’s still no explanation. We don’t know who did it, but here, in the village, the situation hasn’t been good since last Saturday’s incident”, a source said.
“People don’t know what’s going on or the cause of these deaths. That worries us a lot”, added another resident, who wished to be identified only as Azizi.
On the other hand, the sources say that the terrorists have released four other people that they captured in Chimbanga and Mangoma villages.
“These were a man in Chimbanga village and a woman with her two young children in Mangoma village”, a source said.
The anti-corruption NGO, the Centre for Public Integrity (CIP), also confirmed the occurrence last week of another attack on fishing camps near Lake Nguri, in the district of Muidumbe.
