Presidente da República, Filipe Nyusi, recebe em audiência o Presidente do Conselho de Administração da DP World, Sultão Ahmed Bin Sulayem, em Nova Iorque.
Maputo, 24 Sep (AIM) – Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Monday received in New York the chairperson of the Emirati multinational logistics company DP World, Ahmed Bin Sulayem, and discussed with him the possibility of DP World implementing new projects in Mozambique.
According to Sulayem, Mozambique is now an important hub for trade to neighboring countries such as South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
DP World has been operating in Mozambique for more than 20 years. With its headquarters in the United Arab Emirates and operations in more than 70 countries around the world, DP World is one of the largest logistics companies in the world.
Sulayem took the opportunity to express his satisfaction that the Mozambican government has approved a further 25 years of concession of the Port of Maputo to the consortium of operators led by DP World and South African Grindrod Ltd.
The consortium, called the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC), also includes the country’s publicly owned Ports and Rail Company (CFM).
“After the concession was extended, which we are very grateful for, we immediately started a project to greatly expand the port, both to handle containers and to receive minerals. So the port is going to be much bigger than before”, said Sulayem.
“The concession was due to expire in 2033, but it was extended for a further 25 years, meaning that it will now expire in 2058 to allow for further expansion of the port infrastructure”, he added.
