Maputo, 13 Oct (AIM) – Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo Party and its presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo, have won last Wednesday’s general elections comfortably in the district of Mocimboa da Praia in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.
This is the first result from Cabo Delgado that AIM has so far obtained.
According to the results released on Saturday by the Mocimbia da Praia District Elections Commission (CDE), in the presidential election there was a 43.48 per cent turnout of the 62,930 registered voters.
There were 1,420 blank ballots (5.24 per cent), and 936 invalid votes (3.45 per cent).

In the parliamentary election, Frelimo also enjoyed an easy victory, with Renamo in second place. The results announced by the CDE were as follows, again in the order the parties appeared on the ballot paper:

These results are still preliminary, and have yet to be confirmed by the National Elections Commission (CNE), and validated by the Constitutional Council
