Maputo, 12 Nov (AIM) – Mozambique’s National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) seized, on 3 November, a half tonne of cocaine inside a ship coming from India.
According to SERNIC spokesperson, Hilário Lole, speaking to reporters on Monday, in Maputo, the authorities are carrying out actions in order to identify the “organization” responsible for the import of “573 kilos of cocaine seized on 3 November inside the last ship coming from India.”
“The goods were seized after a ship from India docked and was found to be carrying several containers, including one with dubious cargo. At the end of the inspection, it was found that instead of carrying construction material, the ship was also carrying 20 plastic containers, with a capacity of 25 liters each, carrying a white substance which, after laboratory tests, was confirmed to be cocaine”, he said.
Lole believes that the construction material only served to camouflage the cocaine, which was placed in drums wrapped in black plastic bags and, in turn, in transparent plastic bags.
“At the moment investigations are underway to identify the destination of the goods. It is a result of a transnational drug trafficking network. We know that drug trafficking is organized. That’s why we’re working hard to identify all the individuals involved in importing this product”, he said.
