Nampula (Mozambique), 9 Jan (AIM) – Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has condemned the destruction of public and private infrastructures during the post-elections crisis characterized by mass demonstrations called by presidential candidate Venancio Mondlane in order to protest against the allegedly fraudulent results of the elections held on 9 October.
According to Nyusi, who was speaking on Thursday, in the northern city of Nampula, during the inauguration of a High Court of Appeal, disagreements should not lead to the destruction of infrastructures that serve to assist citizens.
“Often we may not agree with something, but we shouldn’t be angry with ourselves. Governments have an obligation and responsibility to serve everyone. There are differences, but consensus is found”, he said.
The Nampula Appeals court, he said, will also cover the provinces of Zambézia, Niassa and Cabo Delgado.
According to Nyusi, the construction of courts in every district, which began to take shape in 2020, “contributes to an efficient, impartial, upright, swift system that inspires people’s confidence in the application of the law equally to all”.
On the same occasion, Nyusi lamented how the wave of disinformation about how cholera is spread led to the destruction of a health centre and a police post in Nametil, capital of Mogovolas district.
According to Nyusi, these events have led to the deaths of at least 50 people, including some involved in the acts of vandalism.
