Presidente da República, Daniel Chapo, recebe em audiência Presidente da ExxonMobil para Upstream, Dan Ammann
Maputo, 20 Feb (AIM) – The US oil and gas company ExxonMobil has guaranteed its commitment to the liquefied natural gas (LNG) extraction project in the Rovuma basin, off the coast of the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado.
The commitment was expressed by ExxonMobil’s President for Upstream, Dan Ammann, in a brief contact with the press, minutes after an audience granted to him by the Mozambican President, Daniel Chapo.
“We discussed our commitment to Mozambique, to the LNG project that we have all been working on, and also to the communities of Cabo Delgado. We also discussed how the government and ExxonMobil and our partners can work together to help move this project forward for the benefit of all parties involved”, he said.
ExxonMobil is leading the construction and operation of all future natural gas liquefaction and related facilities for the Area 4 deep water block off the Cabo Delgado coast, operated by Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV), a joint venture owned by ExxonMobil, the Italian energy company ENI, and CNPC of China.
However, the work was suspended indefinitely after an armed attack carried out by Islamist terrorists against Palma town in March 2021. Now the start of the project depends on the signing of a final investment decision (FID).
Meanwhile, the Mozambican Defence and Security Forces (FDS), in partnership with the Rwandan forces, have managed to restore state authority in all the districts that had been taken over by the terrorists.
