Maputo, 4 Apr (AIM) – At least three people were murdered on Monday by a group of Islamist terrorists in Ancuabe district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado.
According to the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, the murders took place on Monday after the terrorists invaded the Ancuabe villages of Magaia, Nacuale, Mahegane and Nonia
According to the paper’s sources, since the Mozambican Defence Forces (FDS) were unable to respond to the attack, many households are abandoning their homes in search of safer places such as the Metoro administrative post in Ancuabe and Pemba, the Cabo Delgado provincial capital.
Experts believe that the Islamic State militants in Mozambique are increasingly advancing towards the south of Cabo Delgado, after concentrating their attacks in the centre and north of the province in recent weeks, namely in Macomia, Quissanga, Meluco, Muidumbe and Mocímboa da Praia districts.
On previous occasions, after attacks of this nature, the terrorists moved further south in the province, passing through the districts of Chiúre or Mecúfi, until reaching Memba, in the neighbouring province of Nampula.
