Presidente da Comissão de Gestão da LAM, Dane Kondic
Maputo, 30 Jun (AIM) –Mozambique Airlines (LAM) has announced that Dane Kondić, who was appointed to head the LAM Executive Management Board in order to bring the bankrupt company back to viability, will continue to lead the restructuring of LAM, even though it was recently announced that he will also head the Board of Directors of Air Botswana.
According to the LAM Board of Directors – consisting of the three public companies that have taken shares in LAM, namely Hidroelectrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), which operates the Cahora Bassa dam on the Zambezi River, the rail and port company, CFM, and the insurance company EMOSE – the position to be held by Kondić at Air Botswana is non-executive. “It is advisory and exercised on a part-time basis”, the Board said.
According to the document, despite this situation, Kondić “should carry out his duties at LAM on an exclusive basis, a proposal which he has welcomed”.
“Talks are currently under way with this manager to enable the implementation of this decision, which is considered essential for the continuity of his duties at the head of the Management Committee. The role of Chairman of LAM’s Management Committee requires exclusive dedication and a full commitment to the company’s strategic objectives”, the Board declared.
Kondić arrived at LAM in mid-May to lead the company’s new Management Committee, following the resignation of the previous Board of Directors, which was led by Gildo Marcelino.
Dane Kondic is an Australian citizen of Serbian origin, who has a career in civil aviation spanning 35 years. Between 2013 and 2018, he was CEO and chairperson of Air Serbia. From 2021 to 2024, he held the same positions in the Portuguese company Euro Atlantic Airways. This was the company that provided the aircraft for LAM’s flights between Maputo and Lisbon, now suspended after disastrous losses.
