Primeira-ministra, Benvinda Levi, dirige a 16ª Sessão do Comité Interministerial de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento de Adolescentes e Jovens (CIADAJ)
Maputo, 27 Nov (AIM) – Mozambican Prime Minister Benvinda Levi has called for coordinated efforts between various government sectors and cooperation partners to ensure a harmonized implementation of youth development agendas and to avoid duplication of efforts.
According to Levi, who was speaking on Wednesday, in Maputo, at the Interministerial Committee for Support to the Development of Adolescents and Young People (CIADAJ), coordination is important to avoid overlapping efforts and uncovered areas.
“We talk about coordination between sectors because as a government and as a civil society, we all work for the same society. The lack of interministerial coordination often leads to undue concentration of attention in a single sector, leaving others neglected. It is important that we work together”, she said.
Levi also highlighted that collaboration between sectors should prioritize assistance to vulnerable people, so that they can overcome social limitations and contribute to national development.
“Vulnerable people, vulnerable groups, deserve our attention so that they can overcome this condition and contribute to the country’s development. Gender-based violence, child marriages, and teenage pregnancies require strong Interministerial intervention”, she said.
“We are talking about gender-based violence and its relationship to child marrriages and teenage pregnancies, which continue to be a major challenge in our country. We must continue to work so that our girls are not involved in child marriages”, she added.
For his part, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Caifadine Manasse, announced the existence of a support fund aimed at empowering young entrepreneurs, with a view to creating self-employment initiatives and reducing unemployment. However, he did not mention the amount available in the fund.
According to Manasse, access to funding will depend on the presentation of solid projects at local level, which will be duly monitored by the relevant structures.
“Each young person has to present a well-developed project. Then, the local structures will provide follow-up. Whoever wins the fund—which must be repaid, and this needs to be clear—must work with it to achieve success”, he said.
