Maputo, 15 May (AIM) – Mozambican President Daniel Chapo calls for strengthened cooperation strategies to boost industrialization, digital transformation, and sustainable economic growth in Africa.
According to Chapo, speaking to reporters after participating at the 13th edition of the Africa CEO Forum 2026, held in Kigali, Mozambique’s presence in the meeting served to consolidate contacts with African and international political and business leaders, at a time when the country seeks to strengthen the foundations of its economic independence.
The President explained that the forum established itself as a strategic platform to discuss the economic future of Africa, focusing on investment, industrialization, innovation, intra-African trade, and the creation of opportunities for young people and women.
During his stay in Kigali, the President also held meetings with international investors and economic groups to present Mozambique’s potential in the energy, hydrocarbons, renewable energy, logistics, tourism, agriculture, industrialization, and digital transformation sectors.
Chapo also highlighted the meeting held with Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, during which the two heads of state reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the relations of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between the two countries.
The President also revealed that he had maintained contact with representatives of large international economic groups, including Visa, with whom he discussed financial inclusion mechanisms and digital solutions to improve revenue collection related to tourism and electronic taxation.
In the financial sector, Chapo discussed with the Angolan Sovereign Fund cooperation mechanisms related to the capitalization of the future Development Bank of Mozambique, recently approved by the Assembly of the Republic, the country’s parliament.
“Our responsibility as the public sector is to nurture the private sector, both national and foreign, removing obstacles and amending legislation if necessary to boost business. Mozambique’s participation in the forum was highly positive and strategic”, he said.
For his part, Michael Berner, deputy President and Regional Director of Visa for Southern and Eastern Africa, Mozambique is one of Visa’s strategic markets in the region and it has potential in the field of technological innovation and financial inclusion.
“There are many opportunities in the country for the digitization of payments, to bring in new technologies and innovations, which would help not only to modernize payments in Mozambique, but also to modernize the economy”, he said.
He explained that the conversations with President Chapo allowed for the identification of concrete areas of cooperation, especially in strengthening the digital financial ecosystem and expanding the population’s access to electronic services.
“President Chapo showed openness to the proposals presented by Visa, demonstrating a willingness to clarify the institutional dialogue with the company”, he said.
