Maputo, 27 May (AIM) – The European Union plans to mobilize over 300 million Euros (about 349.1 million US dollars at the current exchange rate) in investments for Mozambique as part of the Global Gateway strategy.
According to Antonino Maggiore, European Union (EU) ambassador to Mozambique – speaking on Monday, in Maputo, at launch of the 2nd Mozambique-European Union Business Forum and the 5th Business Conference on “Renewable Energies in Mozambique” (RENMOZ 2026) – 178 million Euros is secured for investments in the sectors of energy and agribusiness, during business forum scheduled for June 9th and 10th.
Another 120 million Euros will be mobilized within the framework of RENMOZ 2026, which will take place on June 11th and 12th, both in Maputo.
“The central objective is to mobilize European investment and promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Mozambique. The two events constitute one of the most important moments of the Global Gateway strategy in Mozambique, the result of about a year of joint preparation between the European Union and the Mozambican government”, he said.
He explained that the focus will be on promoting business, energy, and implementing investments with a direct impact on Mozambique’s economy
The diplomat said the two events, which 300 companies have confirmed participation, will focus on “investment to impact: business, energy and implementation.”
“Partners have signed a 40 million Euros investment for electricity access and 28 million Euros for digital transformation, including technical training. Education for a Green and Digital Future secured a 50 million Euros in investment, including technical training, while the agribusiness and sustainable value chain development sector received 60 million Euros”, he said.
According to Maggiore, the forum will focus on robust economic partnerships, private sector involvement and inclusive growth, adding that he expected a real impact from “quality European investments to support green industrialization in Mozambique.”
“The forum is not, and will not be, a meeting for debates. We work to ensure it is a platform for results, tangible investments, projects, implementation and new opportunities within our partnership”, he said.
“All of this is because we believe in Mozambique, in the country’s strategic potential,” stated the head of the European delegation. We worked to ensure that it is a platform for results, tangible investments, and implementation projects”, he added.
The Mozambique-European Union Business Forum will focus on four sectors considered strategic within the Global Gateway framework, namely connectivity and development corridors, digital transformation and innovation, renewable energies and green transition, agribusiness and sustainable tourism.
Among the highlighted economic corridors are those of the northern Nacala district, central city of Beira and southern Maputo, considered fundamental for strengthening regional integration and boosting trade and industrialization.
In the energy sector, RENMOZ 2026 is expected to announce new large-scale projects, including tenders for mini-grids financed by the European Union, investments in solar power plants, and new opportunities related to the energy transition.
