Maputo, 18 May (AIM) – Another member of the National Alliance for a Free and Autonomous Mozambique (Anamola), the political party led by former presidential candidate Venancio Mondlane, was shot dead on Friday by unknown assailants.
The victim in question is Pedro Chauke, member of Anamola in Mucambene region, Massagena district, southern province of Gaza.
According to witnesses, he was shot dead at his home. The criminals also stole his car.
The Mozambique Police (PRM) has not commented on the matter yet.
This is another aggression against those who support Mondlane in less than a week. Recently, unknown assailants shot dead Anselmo Vicente, Anamola political coordinator in Chimoio city, central province of Manica.
Vicente’s death was followed by three days of “national mourning” called by Mondlane. During the mourning, which was aimed at protesting against the assassination of Anamola members in general, Mondlane encouraged the wearing of black clothing so that “all people who refute the silencing of critical voices of the system should reflect on the situation of our country,” he said.
According to the NGO “Decide” Electoral Platform, From July 2025 to the present day, over 20 attacks against members of the opposition parties have been recorded.
