Conversações ministeriais de alto nível entre a Alemanha e Moçambique
Maputo, 22 May (AIM) – The Germany government has pledged to disburse four million Euros (4.6 million US dollars at the current exchange rate) to support climate resilience, food security and recovery of regions affected by flooding in the southern Mozambican province of Gaza.
According to a statement released by the German Embassy in Maputo, the announcement was made during high-level ministerial talks held in Berlin between Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas, and members of the German government.
The amount and the project implementation will be managed by the World Food Programme (WFP) this year.
The support comes at a time when Mozambique continues to face the consequences of extreme weather events and armed conflict, particularly in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.
During the meeting, the Mozambican minister was received by the German Federal Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, and the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Reem Alabali Radovan.
The parties discussed the state of bilateral relations, economic cooperation, climate resilience, humanitarian challenges, and regional security, as the two countries celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations.
According to the German government, Berlin remains a strategic partner of Mozambique, currently being the country’s second-largest bilateral partner in the area of development cooperation.
“German cooperation covers sectors such as renewable energy, climate resilience, good governance, and economic reforms aimed at harnessing Mozambique’s economic potential”, reads the document.
The statement also recalls that, during the floods recorded in early 2026, Germany provided approximately three million Euros in humanitarian aid and sent a cargo plane with tents, water filters, and other emergency equipment.
Quoted in the document, the German ambassador to Mozambique, Ronald Münch, considered that Lucas’s visit “adds another chapter to the long history of the partnership between Germany and Mozambique.”
