Maputo, 11 Jun (AIM) – The Council of State, the advising body to Mozambican President, calls for strengthened measures for a more Inclusive National Dialogue in order to promote social cohesion towards sustainable economic growth.
The meeting, which was chaired by President Chapo, was marked by the absence of Venâncio Mondlane, former presidential candidate and leader of the National Alliance for a Free and Autonomous Mozambique (Anamola).
Mondlane – who skipped the meeting in protest against “political harassment and assassinations against members and supporters of his political party” – is a member of the Council of State by virtue of the legislation that makes it clear that the runner-up in the latest presidential election is automatically entitled to a seat on the Council.
At the meeting, the councilors considered various matters of national interest and presented contributions focused on strengthening governance, institutional stability, and the development of Mozambique.
The Council also highlighted the need to deepen the Inclusive National Dialogue, considering it a fundamental instrument for the preservation of peace, national unity, and the Democratic Rule of Law.
The body also called for the continuation of policies aimed at strengthening social cohesion and promoting sustainable economic growth, stressing that “political coordination and institutional stability remain key factors in making decisions aligned with the country’s interests.”
The body also reaffirmed its commitment to continue monitoring the evolution of key national issues and to present recommendations aimed at “promoting national unity, political stability, and the consolidation of democratic institutions.”
The Councilors also reiterated their willingness to continue “playing an advisory role to the President of the Republic, advocating for solutions geared towards strengthening governance and the country’s development.”
