Maputo, 26 Jun (AIM) – Valige Tauabo, governor of the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, calls on investors to comply with the security protocols established by the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) in order to avoid setbacks in the fight against islamist terrorism.
According to the governor, who was speaking at the 1st International Industrialization and Agribusiness Conference in Cabo Delgado, stability and security are crucial factors for the continuation of development projects in the province, which means that investors must collaborate with the security authorities.
“The progress achieved in combating terrorism must be safeguarded through compliance with Defense and Security Force guidelines and the adoption of preventive measures by all parties involved in investment processes”, he said.
According to Tauabo, collaboration is also crucial for stability and attraction of “new buyers of agricultural and fishery products, tour operators, and businesspeople interested in exploring the region’s economic potential.”
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), since the conflict erupted in 2017, over 6,000 people have been killed.
The governor also revealed that MozCan Investments intends to invest approximately two million US dollars in agricultural projects in the Balama district.
“Three agreements are currently under review for future signing. These aim to implement agricultural projects and build the capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises, thereby generating jobs, income, and business opportunities”, he said.
Tauabo also reiterated the government’s openness to welcoming both domestic and foreign investment and “we are confident that the agreements reached during the conference will help to transform Cabo Delgado’s potential into sustainable development and improved living conditions for the population.”
The Conference on Industrialization and Agribusiness was attended by approximately 300 delegates, including representatives from Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa, and Brazil. They discussed investment opportunities and strategies to boost the province’s economic development.
