Maputo, 30 Jun (AIM) – Mozambican President Daniel Chapo calls for strengthened surveillance against Islamist terrorism that has been plaguing districts of the Northern Province of Cabo Delgado, since 2017.
According to the President, addressing a public rally marking during his working visit to Nampula, peace remains the primary condition for Mozambique’s economic and social development “and we need to prioritize dialogue as a mean of resolving conflicts and strengthened efforts to combat terrorism.”
“The government remains committed to implementing the Inclusive National Dialogue, a process aimed at gathering and consolidating contributions from political parties, social organizations, religious and community leaders, and citizens in general”, he said.
“It is not through conflict, chaos, or hatred, but through peace that Mozambique develops”, he added.
Chapo explained that strengthening peace would make it possible to accelerate investments in strategic sectors, “including roads, energy, water supply, agriculture, industry, health, and education.”
The President also said that the amount made available through the Local Economic Development Fund (FDEL) would be doubled in every district across the country to meet the growing demand for financing from young and female entrepreneurs.
“This year, we will double the FDEL funding in all of Mozambique’s districts. Many projects had gone unfunded due to a lack of resources, prompting the government to increase the funds allocated to small businesses”, the President said.
According to Chapo, supporting entrepreneurship is one of the most effective ways to generate jobs and income for families. “We want Mozambicans to own their own gold, graphite, rubies, and wealth”, he said.
Chapo added that the Government is also working to improve conditions for public servants, including the gradual resumption of overtime pay, administrative processing, and other labor entitlements.
Addressing concerns raised by the public, Chapo assured that the rehabilitation of the roads Montepuez-Pemba, Montepuez-Namuno, Montepuez-Balama, and Montepuez-Mueda is part of the government’s plans.
“Roads are like the veins in our bodies. Improving them facilitates the movement of people and goods and boosts the province’s development”, he said.
