Maputo, 1 Jul (AIM) – Jean-Pascal Clémençon, Chair of the French oil and gas company Total Energies in Mozambique, has encouraged businesses to join the Mozambique LNG Project, noting that it provides “opportunities across its value chain whether onshore, offshore, maritime or subsea operations.”
The LNG project, which is headed by Energies, is budgeted at around 20 billion US dollars, making it the largest foreign investment project in sub-Saharan Africa.
The project’s development was resumed last January after it was interrupted, in 2021, following a major terrorist attack against Palma town.
Speaking at a meeting with the France-Mozambique Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Clémençon highlighted the scale of local participation, with around 5000 Mozambicans currently contributing to the project, alongside extensive socio-economic initiatives, training programmes, and community development efforts.
“During the discussion, Clémençon engaged with our business community and shared insights into the project’s progress and future outlook. While many of us are familiar with the project’s strategic importance for Mozambique and global energy markets, we discussed the complexity of the operations, and the thousands of people currently working on site make it clear why Mozambique LNG is considered one of the largest energy projects ever undertaken on the African continent”, reads a statement.
According to the document, the meeting “provided a unique opportunity for the members [of France-Mozambique Chamber of Commerce and Industry] to hear directly from the leader of one of the most significant investments currently underway in Africa.”
