Maputo, 3 Jun (AIM) – Mozambican President Daniel Chapo, as Commander-in-Chief of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), on Thursday visited the Northern Operational Theater (TON), which has been fighting Islamist Terrorism in Cabo Delgado province.
During his visit to the districts of Mueda and Mocímboa da Praia, the President boosted troop morale, assessed the evolving security situation, reinforced the coordination of military operations, and provided guidance for intensifying the offensive against terrorist groups.
The visit began in the district of Mueda, where the Head of State met with the Local Force Command to learn about the operational situation, the progress achieved, and the main challenges faced on the ground.
On that occasion, he encouraged the troops to continue their mission with determination, discipline, and patriotism, highlighting the role of the Local Force in protecting the population and defending national sovereignty.
The President met with the Northern Operational Theater Command and received an update on the progress of military operations, and instructed the reinforcement of the offensive against terrorist groups.
The Commander-in-Chief also announced the transfer of the Northern Operational Theater Command from Pemba to Mocímboa da Praia, with the aim of bringing the command center closer to the main operational zones and making the response to threats faster and more effective.
The President of the Republic also directed the strengthening of the capabilities of the Defense and Security Forces through investments in infrastructure, logistics, equipment, training and capacity building, in order to consolidate the operational capacity of the troops.
During the meeting with the troops, Chapo conveyed a message of recognition and encouragement, guaranteeing that the government will continue to monitor the operations and create better conditions for the fulfillment of the mission.
He also highlighted that the government is working to resume important economic investments in the province, pointing to this fact as a sign of the effectiveness of the ongoing operations.
