Maputo, 09 Oct (AIM) – Mozambican President Daniel Chapo on Thursday handed over a resettlement complex to the community of Nhamitsatsi, Moatize district, in the central province of Tete.
The infrastructure, which was funded by the Indian multinational company Vulcan responsible for coal mine operations Moatize, consists of housing, a school equipped with a computer room and library, a health facility, a police station, a market and a multi-purpose sports field.
The complex was built as part of a resettlement programme aimed at benefiting households affected by mining activities in Moatize, where coal mining plays a significant role in the local economy.
During his first day of working visit in Tete, the President also handed over ambulances and other vehicles intended to strengthen service delivery to the community.
In addition to Moatize, Chapo visited Tete city, where he presided over the opening of Tete International Investment Conference (CIIT 2026), held under the motto “Tete on the Investment Horizon: Opportunities for a New Era of Development”.
The conference brings together various stakeholders to showcase the province’s economic potential and promote investment opportunities. The province has significant mineral resources, particularly coal, as well as potential in agriculture, energy, tourism, infrastructure and logistics.
The conference takes place as the government seeks to attract more investment and projects capable of diversifying the provincial economy, creating jobs and expanding business opportunities.
