Maputo, 7 May (AIM) – The Mozambican Prime Minister has announced the availability of one billion meticais (15.6 million US dollars at the current exchange rate) for the resumption of promotions and career changes within the public administration after they were suspended in 2022 due to result of shortage of funds to cover the necessary expenditure.
According to the minister, who was addressing the deputies in the country’s Parliament, Assembly of the Republic, conditions have been established to move forward with the resumption of promotions and career changes within the public administration.
According Levi, the public administration has about 180,500 employees in condition to be promoted and change careers, therefore “the Economic and Social Plan and State Budget (2026 PESOE) plans to make available one billion meticais to gradually resume promotions, taking into account the current macro-fiscal challenges that the country is facing.”
Over the last year, the government, through the Ministry of State Administration, had announced to have allocated a budget to enable for what are delicately referred to as “administrative acts.”
However, it admitted that the money was not enough to cover all employees eligible for promotion or movement along the career ladder.
Among the groups that would be prioritized are employees whose cases had already been reviewed by the Administrative Tribunal before the suspension.
