Primeira-ministra, Benvinda Levi
Maputo, 15 May (AIM) – Mozambican Prime Minister Benvinda Levi has challenged the heads of state-owned companies to promote transparency in management, good practices and structural reforms capable of generating positive indicators.
The Prime Minister was speaking on Thursday, in Maputo, at a ceremony in which she swore into office Danilo Nanla as chairperson of the Institute for the Management of State Holdings (IGEPE); Rudéncio Morais as chairperson of the National Hydrocarbons Company (ENH); and Amorim Pery as chairperson of the Housing Development Fund (FFH).
According to Levi, the new chairpersons must improve mechanisms that guarantee investments in the restructuring process and the economic viability of state-owned companies.
These mechanisms include measures to increase the profitability of state-owned companies, control fiscal risk, ensure financial sustainability, and prevent indebtedness.
The Prime minister also demanded transparency, accountability, and internal control of public and state-owned companies, contributing to the optimization of the management of the State’s portfolio of holdings and increased management of capital revenues.
“We recommend the new chairman of IGEPE and his team to be more proactive and creative in deepening and declaring the ongoing reforms so that we have a more efficient, sustainable public business management, oriented towards generating more resources for the public treasury and improving the living conditions of Mozambicans”, she said.
He also challenged the attraction of more public-private investments, economic development, and social inclusion.
“Regarding the appointment of engineer Rudéncio Morais as ENH chairman occurs at a decisive stage for the country, especially in the transformation of natural resources into concrete benefits. The process of hydrocarbon exploration, particularly natural gas, requires an institutional positioning to safeguard the national strategic, economic, and energy interests”, the Prime Minister said.
“By capitalizing on the benefits of hydrocarbon exploration, we are boosting the growth of our economy, diversifying and increasing revenue sources for the State, expanding infrastructure to support the sector and industrialization, as well as creating more jobs and income, especially for young people and women”, she added.
She stressed that ENH and the national oil sector must look at the challenges that the world and Mozambique, in particular, face as a consequence of the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz.
“The new management of ENH must also develop actions that contribute to the use of natural gas as a strategic raw material for the production of fertilizers, fuels and petrochemical products, which will boost the agricultural and industrial sectors of our country,” he said.
She explained the mission entrusted to the appointee requires leadership, strategic vision, innovation, and execution capacity.
According to Levi, the country needs strong, modern institutions capable of responding to the challenges of the present and the future in an efficient, transparent, financially and sustainably sound manner, oriented towards concrete results that have a positive impact on the lives of citizens.
“We expect you to be leaders with strategic vision, leadership skills, ethical sense and patriotic commitment, leaders who encourage their collective to contribute positively to the achievement of the objectives and goals defined for each institution”, she said.
