Maputo, 14 Jun (AIM) – The export of various types of goods from the central Mozambican province of Manica reached 32 million dollars last year compared with 31 million in 2021.
According to Maria Assunção, Manica provincial director of Industry and Trade, cited in Wednesday’s issue of the Maputo daily “Notícias”, seven million dollars came from the export of fruit.
“It means that last year we had an increase of one million dollars. Our goal is to strengthen fruit producers so that they can master improved agricultural techniques in order to guarantee quality”, Assunção said, adding that “we must diversify production.”
Assunção said that the products were exported to 18 countries, notably to Zimbabwe, Botswana, China, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates.
“The province currently exports mango, avocado, bauxite, fertilizers, gemstones, marble, gold and other mineral and natural resources”, she said, advancing that “We want to organize meetings to attract industrial processors in various sectors.”
One of the main constraints, she said, has to do with the lack of coordination between producers and sellers. She also lamented the lack of information provided to the District Economic Services to facilitate the sales in each season.
