Maputo, 14 Feb (AIM) – Islamist terrorists have burned down a health unit, in Mazeze administrative post, Chiúre district, in the northern Mozambican Province of Cabo Delgado, according to a report in the independent newssheet “Carta de Moçambique.”
According to the paper, citing local sources, among the other buildings destroyed there are also a market, a church and the priests’ residence.
“The terrorists entered Mazeze at around 16.00, when most of the population had already fled”, the source said.
“The criminals got in, but no deaths were reported. Fortunately, the population had already left as the terrorists had already been seen by the peasants in their fields and the surrounding communities. Some residents went towards Mecúfi while others hid”, said another resident.
According to the sources, despite the attack, life in the town of Chiúre is going on normally, especially since most of the families have crossed the Megaruma River into the district of Mecúfi.
During their invasion, the terrorists had time to engage in dialogue with some people, demanding that they perform religious acts in accordance with Islam.
On Friday, the terrorists abducted a bus driver along National Road 380 (N380), 56 kilometers from the town of Meluco. Lately, the terrorists have been intercepting vehicles in some districts of Cabo Delgado.
Last week, the terrorists attacked the village of Nacoja, also in Mazeze, where they burnt down two churches and several huts.
