Maputo, 15 Feb (AIM) –Mozambique’s National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) has detained three individuals for allegedly stealing 10,000 blood collection units at the Quelimane General Hospital (HGQ), in the central province of Zambézia.
According to SERNIC, the crime involves two HGQ employees and a private security guard, who was responsible for protecting medical inputs, belonging to the health unit.
“The material was found in a house located in the Torrone neighbourhood in the city of Quelimane”, Sernic says, cited by the independent daily “O País.”
The security guard confessed that he was responsible for opening the stockroom, allowing a hospital professional to take the material.
However, the two professionals deny being involved in the theft.
Sernic believes that these employees are part of a group dedicated to looting materials and drugs from the National Health System, through the HGQ.
