Maputo, 15 Feb (AIM) –Mozambique’s National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) has seized almost 500 kilos of cannabis, and other, as yet unknown, drugs in the tourist area of Matibane, Mossuril district, in the northern province of Nampula.
According to the SERNIC spokesperson in Nampula, Enina Tsinini, speaking to reporters on Thursday, “these drugs were seized on 10 February in the district of Mossuril, specifically in Matobane, in a coordinated effort between the Mozambican Police (PRM) and SERNIC.”
However, nobody was arrested at the crime scene in connection with the case. The drugs were found inside a boat where the police also seized two pistols and their ammunition.
“We had information from our sources that there was a boat in the mangroves that had been abandoned for three days”, Tsinini said. “Inside there were several bales of a product that was not known at the time”.
According to the spokesperson, from the work then carried out “we found a total of 481 kilos of cannabis sativa of Swazi origin inside the package; and oil extracted from the cannabis seed. There were also substances that are still in the laboratory to be examined in order to know what they are”.
