Chefe de Estado moçambicano, Filipe Nyusi, recebido em audiência pelo Presidente do Banco Mundial, Ajay Banga, em Washington, Estados Unidos
Maputo, 17 Apr (AIM) – Mozambican president, Filipe Nyusi, and the President of the World Bank group, Ajay Banga, met on Tuesday, in Washington, to discuss the need to work together to promote jobs for young people in Mozambique.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the International Conference on the Miombo Forest, a three-day event which started this Tuesday in Washington.
“We had a good conversation about the course of the work, about the results of the economic development that Mozambique is experiencing in order to improve the pace of economic growth. The most important thing is that we discussed the opportunities for young people, for their future, about how we can invest in youth, because young people are the future of the country”, Banga told reporters.
Employment for young people has been of great concern for the Mozambican government, and so Nyusi and Banga discussed measures to promote it, considering youth as an agent of change and a promoter of the country’s socio-economic development.
With the support of partner institutions such as the World Bank, the government has been promoting various initiatives to guarantee more jobs for young people.
Banga acknowledged that Mozambique is becoming a reference point for electricity in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) market.
It was also clear that there is plenty of room for the government and the private sector to work together to increase growth in this energy sector, as well as in infrastructure, tourism and other areas with the potential to generate jobs for young people.
