Presidente da República, Filipe Nyusi (terceiro na fila) visita as obras do Hospital Provincial de Xai-Xai
Maputo, 31 May (AIM) – Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi believes that the Gaza Provincial Hospital (HPG), in the southern city of Xai-Xai, plays an important role for the population as a result of its strategic location.
Nyusi expressed his thoughts during his visit, on Thursday, to the rehabilitation work on the HPG, where he was briefed about the development and expansion work under way.
“HPG is extremely important for the population and other users due to its strategic location. After the completion of the ongoing work, this health facility will meet the needs of the local population, travelers and tourists”, he said.
Xai-Xai, he stressed, “is the capital of a tourist province. So one of the things tourists want to know is where to go when they are ill.”
“I was pleased to hear that over 93 per cent of the work is finished. The contractor is optimistic that he will be able to deliver the completed job within a month.”
Nyusi also said that the government remains committed to building and rehabilitating hospitals throughout the country in order to provide quality health services to the Mozambican population.
With the expansion work, the HPG will increase its capacity from the current 270 beds to 340 in order to meet demand. The facility will also offer computerized axial tomography (CAT) services, essential for diagnosing muscle and bone diseases, as well as identifying and locating tumors.
