Maputo, 14 Jun (AIM) – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Thursday donated laptop computers and printers to the Mozambican Attorney General’s Office (PGR), in order to strengthen the country’s response to crime.
The donation is part of the consolidation of the USAID Donor Agreement for Technical Support Activities in the Justice Sector named JUSTA, which began in 2023 and is expected to end in 2025.
According to the PGR Secretary General, Agostinho Rututo, the supply of this equipment will strengthen the PGR’s intervention capacity and contribute to improving the prosecutors’ performance in standardizing procedures.
“The equipment received today has a profound value for the Public Prosecutor’s Office, as it marks the beginning of a new digital era in procedural processing”, he said.
For his part, the USAID representative, David Yong, said that USAID is committed to strengthening the justice sector in Mozambique by providing equipment to ensure that magistrates fully carry out their activities in the process of restoring the justice system.
The equipment, he said, symbolizes the importance of technology in improving equitable access to justice.
“These technological tools will allow prosecutors to manage cases more efficiently, through the computer system for integrated case management of different types of crimes, but with an emphasis on crimes against biodiversity, human rights violations and corruption”, he said.
“Technology is not a magic solution for procedural processing. Human intervention will be essential to effectively achieve the goal of the project that unites USAID and the PGR”, he added.
