Catandica (Mozambique) 11 Aug (AIM) – Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo Party has drawn up concrete projects for the production of wealth for the youths and adults who will develop Barue district, in the central province of Manica, declared the party’s General Secretary and presidential candidate. Daniel Chapo.
Speaking at a rally on Saturday in the district capital, Catandica, Chapo said Frelimo intends to bring large companies to install processing industries in Barue for all kinds of agricultural produce.
He warned that, to bring these projects to fruition, Frelimo must win the presidential, parliamentary and provincial elections scheduled for 9 October.
Chapo said Frelimo is well aware of the problems facing young Mozambicans including the shortage of jobs and of housing. He added that Frelimo will identify “zones of expansion for young people”.
“We know that a young person with a job, a plot of land and some money can build his own house”, he said. “We have many youths with businesses, but they don’t have the money to expand their business. We want to create a bank that will finance these youths. It will be called ‘Bank of the People for the People’”.
In addition to financing, Chapo’s project for governance also covers training for young people. The solution, he promised, will be to bring technical and professional training institutions to Manica province, so that students can attend courses in such subjects as electricity, agriculture and metalworking.
Youths who have learnt a profession can work to develop Mozambique and improve the quality of their lives and communities, he added.
As for women involved in business, Chapo guaranteed that they will have opportunities for financing to expand their activity.
He also pledged that any government he leads will fight against corruption, which he regarded as an evil that holds back the development of the province and the country.
“The resources which should be used to build infrastructures are diverted into people’s pockets”, he accused. “This must be fought against so that we enjoy better living conditions. This money belongs to the people”.
Everybody must be committed to this struggle, he stressed. “In the health units, particularly in maternity wards, we cannot allow a woman giving birth to be mistreated because she hasn’t paid some money to be assisted. We must fight against these evils. We don’t want to charge money when people want a job, a document or some other kind of public service”.
He urged Mozambicans to take inspiration from those who fought to free the country from Portuguese colonial rule, and even gave their lives to secure independence.
One way of valuing the sacrifices made by the liberators “is to say no to corruption, and to work in unity”, sad Chapo. “Let us preserve peace and national unity. Let us continue to live as true brother and be in solidarity with each other”.
