Maputo, 27 Aug (AIM) –Venancio Mondlane, the independent candidate in Mozambique’s presidential election scheduled for 9 October, has promised that, if elected, he will implement tax exemptions in favor of Mozambicans living abroad with intentions of transferring their businesses to the country.
Speaking to Mozambicans living in the South African province of Gauteng, Mondlane said that there are tax issues that hinder the transfer of business to Mozambique, therefore he promised to “revise taxes such as VAT (Value Added Tax) and customs duties, thus facilitating the return of Mozambican entrepreneurs to their country.”
“We want to implement tax exemptions in order to allow qualifications acquired abroad to be easily transferred to Mozambique, boosting the country’s economy”, he said, according to a post on his Facebook page.
In Johannesburg, Mondlane says “he listened attentively to the concerns of his compatriots, reaffirming his commitment to the rights and well-being of all Mozambicans, regardless of where they live.”
Mondlane claims that he continued his international journey, because he is focusing on direct interaction with Mozambicans living in South Africa, since they are potential voters.
“One of the major challenges faced by Mozambicans in the diaspora is the difficulty of integrating their children into the South African education system, as well as complications in transferring business to Mozambique. We will create conditions in order to speed up document processing without coming to Mozambique”, he said.
He explained that these measures do not require external resources, but rather a reorganization of the political and fiscal process, “an essential action needed to correct the problems accumulated over 30 years of bad governance.”
