
Maputo, 4 Sep (AIM) – The Mozambican Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, has revealed that Indonesian businesses are interested in investing in the production of batteries from minerals that the country possesses.
According to the Minister, who was speaking to reporters, on Tuesday, in Maputo, as part of his participation in the Second Indonesia-Africa Forum, which took place on the Indonesian island of Bali, both countries are already assessing the possibility of cooperation in the mineral sector in order to start producing batteries.
“In the area of mines, there is a lot of interest from Indonesia in working on battery production, so we’re going to see and study this possibility. The partnership between the two countries in battery production will represent a great achievement in bilateral cooperation in the mining area”, he said.
He explained that the batteries produced from Mozambican minerals will be used in various instruments, but especially in electric cars.
“Given the enormous potential for graphite that Mozambique has, this mineral is already being exported for batteries used in electric vehicles”, he said.
According to Zacarias, during the business forum, the delegations of both countries expressed willingness to boost cooperation in the production of medicines.
“The two countries also expressed their intention to cooperate in the industrial sector, taking into account that Indonesia has a very developed industry. Bilateral relations may also be secured in the transport sector”, the Minister said.
He added that technical teams from the two countries will be meeting soon to define the terms of the agreements that will be signed for the framework of bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
