Maputo, 4 Sep (AIM) – The Mozambican Police (PRM) have arrested three individuals for alleged involvement in robbing a branch of the Commercial and Investment Bank (BCI) in the southern city of Matola last Thursday.
The robbery was carried out, at around midday by nine individuals who were inside the BCI branch in the Matola neighbourhood of Fomento. The crime took place when a car carrying sacks of money arrived at the bank. The gang seized the sacks, threw them into their getaway car and left the scene rapidly.
At the bank, a private security guard who tried to react was murdered, and a bank employee was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
According to Matola Police spokesperson, Rodrigues Tchabana, cited by Rádio Moçambique on Tuesday, investigations are still underway to find out more about the three arrested individuals.
“At the moment, we are working in order to bring more details to the public. We are following the clues and we believe that, in a short period of time, the case will be clarified. We can’t bring more details right now in order to avoid confusion during investigation”, he said.
