Maputo, 18 Sep (AIM) – The Governor of the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, has called on the victims of terrorism in Mucojo administrative post, in Macomia district, not to return to their homes, despite the relative stability in the area.
According to Tauabo, who was speaking at a meeting of the Provincial Executive Council, cited in Wednesday’s issue of the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, “we don’t advise the population to go to the Mucojo area because a good environment is still being created.”
He explained that the Mozambican and Rwandan Forces are still working in order to guarantee full stability in the region, therefore those who intend to return must be patient and wait for the go-ahead from the authorities.
Most of the families from Mucojo have sought refuge in the Macomia district capital, some 70 kilometres away.
The Mucojo administrative post is known as an important terrorist stronghold in Cabo Delgado, where the jihadists had established a large base and a cordial relationship with the population that had returned.
Mucojo was also a battleground between Mozambican Forces and the terrorists. However, since last August, the terrorists have been fleeing from the region as a result of intense pursuit by the Mozambican and Rwandan forces.
