Maputo, 25 Sep (AIM) – Venancio Mondlane, the independent presidential candidate backed by Podemos (Optimistic Party for the Development of Mozambique), has promised the potential voters of Moamba district, in Maputo province, that he will implement policies that boost agricultural production, if he wins the election scheduled for 9 October.
Speaking to his followers at a rally, on Wednesday, Mondlane said “we will promote deep changes in the way the agriculture is managed, since this district feeds almost the entire province and city of Maputo. We will also promote new ways of doing agribusiness, because this district is a hub when it comes to food production.”
According to Mondlane, his government will not favor certain groups or elites because the country belongs to all Mozambicans regardless of color, religion or political background.
“We are not going to allow a small group to take everything that belongs to the country for their families, their friends and their comrades”, he declared. “My question is: what do you get out of the resources that the district has? We want the wealth of Moamba to benefit local residents first and foremost. Every person who lives here has to feel that wealth on their plate, in their lunch, in their dinner, in their breakfast”, he said.
“My friends, it’s time for us to wrest Mozambique from the hands of a handful of bandits and to give it back to all Mozambicans”, he added.
During his stay in Moamba, he also visited the two local markets, where he asked for votes, claiming that he will end inequalities if he is elected.
“Moamba has good land for agriculture. But do you have water in your field? Do you have fertilizer on your field? But there is a group that has water and fertilizers. We will end inequalities and treat everybody in the same way”, he said.
