Maputo, 29 Oct (AIM) – Some residents of Muidumbe district, in the northern Mozambican Province of Cabo Delgado, are abandoning their communities after islamist terrorists murdered three fishermen on Saturday.
According to local sources, cited by the Portuguese news agency (LUSA), those who are abandoning the regions are residents of Mapate and Mandela communities, which are almost 50 kilometers from the district capital.
The residents started to abandon the region on Saturday, when three lifeless bodies were found on the banks of the Messalo River. Local sources believe that the crime might have been committed by the jihadists who have been circulating in the region.
“I’m in Nanhala at the moment, I left Mandela and others are in the bush. The situation is bad, the terrorists are heading towards our village”, a source from Nanhala, in Mueda district, said.
“We left in a stampede, there are elderly people who can’t hold on”, this source added.
In the same situation are the residents of Mapate, who have left the community for places considered safe. “We’ve almost all fled, the terrorists are very close to our village”, said a source from Mueda.
