Maputo, 25 Nov (AIM) –Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Saturday inaugurated a jetty budgeted at 330 million meticais (about 5.2 million dollars at the current exchange rate) on Ibo Island, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado.
The infrastructure, which was designed to boost the economy and tourism in Cabo Delgado, was partially funded by the World Bank, under the Idai and Kenneth Post-Cyclone Reconstruction Programme (PREPOC).
The 60 metre-long infrastructure was rebuilt using a metal structure and clad in wood, including a concrete access bridge and a bridge plaza.
According to the President, the jetty will facilitate the transport of people and goods, as well as boosting tourism and trade.
“The jetty, which not only improves the connection between Ibo and other areas of Cabo Delgado, also gives hope of better days for the population”, Nyusi said.
The President also inaugurated a municipal stadium, aiming to place the region on the national and international sports scene.
“This infrastructure represents dignity for the people of Ibo, restoring the greatness that this land has always had in sport. We are investing in health, talent and the future of Mozambican youth”, he said.
