Presidente da República, Filipe Nyusi, inaugura ponte sobre o rio Revúbuè
Tete (Mozambique), 4 Oct (AIM) – Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Thursday inaugurated a metal bridge over the Revúbuè River, in the central province of Tete.
The bridge, which was budgeted at 900 million meticais (14.1 million dollars at the current exchange rate), was built after the structure of the previous bridge was damaged by Cyclone Idai, which hit central Mozambique in 2019.
The new bridge was entirely funded from the Mozambican state budget.
According to Nyusi, speaking at the inauguration, the bridge is a symbol of progress, regional integration and economic advancement for Mozambique.
“It’s a feeling of yet another mission accomplished in the universe of our commitments to the supreme purpose of raising the living conditions of our compatriots”, he said.
According to Nyusi, as part of a broader plan, this bridge consolidates territorial cohesion and, from a regional perspective, when combined with the Kassuende and Samora Machel bridges over the Zambezi river, it will facilitate the regional connection of Tete to Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia, offering alternatives to the traditional routes of the Beira and Nacala corridors.
“In fact, with the new bridge we have shortened the route between Moatize and Tete city, where users will save more than 20 kilometers and have more time for work, with an effect on the general movement of people and goods”, he said.
The bridge, he said, will also relieve traffic congestion on the Samora Machel bridge, “but above all, the region now has a bridge built of more weather-resistant material, which gives it a long-term useful and economic life.”
“Today we are inaugurating a bridge with a metal structure 400 metres long and nine metres wide that allows heavy vehicles to circulate, and is therefore capable of supporting six-axle trucks with a capacity of 48 tonnes and seven-axle trucks with a capacity of 56 tonnes”, he said.
