Maputo, 12 Feb (AIM) – The Mozambican government has announced that the payment of overtime to teachers and health professionals will take place in two phases as a result of financial constraints.
According to the government spokesperson, the Minister of State Administration, Inocêncio Impissa, who was speaking on Tuesday, in Maputo, after a meeting of the Council of Ministers (Cabinet), the first phase of overtime payment will take place during the first 100 days of the new government and the second phase will be paid as of April.
“The second part will begin to be paid in the second quarter of this year. The payment of debts to the suppliers of goods and services to the state will also be phased, with the first being included in the first 100 days of government and the second still to be validated”, he said.
In addition to payment for overtime, the teachers in the Mozambican National Education System have been demanding good working conditions, threatening not to work with classes of over 100 pupils, since overcrowding has been harming the quality of education.
In addition to overtime pay, good working conditions and the supply of essential material for work and medication for users, the health professionals have been demanding improvements in the way health workers are placed in the new Unified Wage Table (TSU) for the public administration.
