Maputo, 12 Mar (AIM) – The Mozambican Council of Ministers (Cabinet) has approved the Government’s Five-Year Programme for 2025-2029, which will be submitted to the Mozambican parliament, the Assembly of the Republic.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday after the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers, the government spokesperson, the Minister of State Administration, Inocêncio Impissa, said the programme is based on five pillars, favoring inclusive and sustainable economic growth, with a focus on diversifying the economy.
According to Impissa, the programme includes job creation, infrastructure modernization, as well as rational management of natural resources, with the goals of reducing poverty, and social and regional inequalities, and ensuring the country’s economic independence.
“The Five-Year Programme includes new requirements imposed by the head of state and by the manifesto he presented during the election campaign”, said Impissa.
Impissa explained that, as a result of the post-election crisis characterized by mass demonstrations called by the former presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane in order to protest against the allegedly fraudulent results, “a number of changes were introduced into the programme in order to address the matter.”
“The country has gone backwards because of the demonstrations and the violence”, he stressed. “It has gone backwards not only from the point of view of infrastructure, it has also gone backwards from the point of view of pacification. Our public tranquility has gone backwards in terms of respect for institutions or public authority. So today, the values that we preserved until just before October 2024 are completely distorted,’ he added.
“The social contract with society must be restored so that peace can be achieved”, he added.
